Group Practice Website Design | Center for Trauma Resolution and Recovery

Laura Anderson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in Complex Trauma including abusive relationships, sexual violence, and religious trauma. Before Laura reached out, I actually already knew of her from her awesome Instagram presence and hearing of the great work she does in Nashville. I loved creating the website for Laura Anderson’s new endeavor, the Center for Trauma Resolution and Recovery!

⁣About the Squarespace Website Project

With a year-long waiting list, Laura saw a need for more access to trauma-informed support for religious trauma, and was already in the process of founding the Center for Trauma Resolution and Recovery (CTRR), a group of trauma-informed professionals whose focus is on supporting individuals with religious trauma, coming out of purity culture, and faith deconstruction.⁣ The goal of the project was to create the online home for the new group coaching practice, making trauma-informed care accessible from anywhere in the world.

CTRR provides online trauma coaching, consultation, virtual support groups, and recommended resources, along with an online store of digital resources. And with nine practitioners spanning six different states, Laura had already compiled quite a lot of information that needed to be included. A primary goal for the website was to create a landing place for an exhaustive amount of information while making it easy to navigate and understand (a cardinal rule of web design-- thou shalt not overwhelm or confuse the visitors!). Once Laura provided me with all of the website copy (which for a site of this scope is a lot of text!) I got to work designing how to present it all in a digestible way.

This is a common dilemma when designing therapy websites-- because therapy is such a personal service, and therapy-seekers can be quite nervous about reaching out for support, you need to strike the balance between giving them enough information to feel comfortable but keeping it concise and skimmable.

Two of my favorite features of the website are creative solutions to this dilemma! On the Meet Our Practitioners and Consultation pages I created a tabbed design so the reader gets a birds-eye view of the content available, and can click through to the individual sections without having to infinitely scroll down through never-ending text. I especially love how this allowed us to give a really full picture of each practitioner while keeping it easy to navigate.

The process of finding the right therapist or coach can often be overwhelming, with jargon-filled language that prospective clients understand, and the CTRR website does an amazing job of providing information that is helpful to get a sense of whether the practitioner may be a good fit. If a website does one thing, it should be that!
